The Red Riding Hood and the Little Red Riding Hood by the Grimm brothers are both revealing the patriarchy. The Red Riding hood in the form of a 100-minute romantic film offered to adults mostly, while the Little Red Riding Hood published in a written fairy tale offered to kids majority. They are using different ways to make the audience more familiar with the aspect of patriarchy.

The Red Riding Hood took place in a village called Daggerhorn. It is on the edge of a forest, plagued by a werewolf. The 17 years old girl, Valerie, who yearns for freedom and love, couldn’t be with her true love because she was debarred from the united marriage decided by her family. However, she didn’t not yield to the fate. She faced up her true love during the disturbing of the werewolf and tried to break the destiny of being werewolf’s inheritor. Unlike other females in the movie, Valerie acts intelligently and bravely. She didn’t defeat by the menace from the werewolf. On the contrary, she executed the wolf, protected her lover from being hurt from the werewolf, by herself.

As a fairy tale,The Little Red Riding Hood is closer to the public. It’s a widely known story since the 19th century. Both The Red Riding Hood and The Little Red Riding Hood aiming to introduce the patriarchy, but in The Little Red Riding Hood, the little girl, who acts as the protagonist is around 8 years old. Unlike Valerie in The Red Riding Hood, she is innocent and doesn’t have a strong sense of protecting herself. She believed others without any precaution easily. It’s her first time to see a wolf. She doesn’t know the nature of “wolf beings”, so she tricked by the wolf, that causes a series of event. Both the little girl and her grandma were eaten by the wolf, but luckily they were saved by the hunter.

The object of the patriarchy is represented on different sides. In the Little Red Riding Hood, the sly wolf is the symbolized of the 17 century’s patriarchy. The wolf is strong, making the little girl has no ability for striking back, eaten by the wolf passivity. In this patriarchy, women are weak and don’t have much knowledge. They often bully and oppress by man. On the contrary, the movie The Red Riding Hood which was released in 2001, the object of the patriarchy wasn’t only the man (the werewolf), it included the influence of society. There are 47 characters in the movie, that formed a small society. People need money to live and women usually don’t have the ability to earn much money. The ideology of this small society makes people in the village thought it’s is appropriate to depend on their husbands. Valerie doesn’t even need the right to choose her own marriage. And also, under the threat of the werewolf, she should become the werewolf’s inheritor without thinking twice, because “the strong” make all the decisions.

To sum up, these two versions are realizing the same function of showing some aspects of Patriarchy. Relatively, in The Red Riding Hood, it is aimed to promote the women’s authority. Women also should know to resist when being in humiliation or threat . Compare to this, The Little Red Riding Hood is trying to call attention to protect selves and never trust strangers readily.

Rewilding Comment

Assignment Requirement: Answer the question in Jerika Bradford’s “Rewilding 101:Should We or Shouldn’t We Rewild Landscapes?” poses, use your own words.ଘ(੭´ ꒫`)੭ ̸*(Further imformations about the assignment please click me!)

What is rewilding?

What I know about rewilding after reading the poses are:

1⃣Restoring the lands, forests and other places which were used covering with vegetation, but now been exploited or polluted by humans, into its natural state.

2⃣Reintroduce the species which was driven out of its original habitat (due to climate change, human’s act and other facts) to maintain the ecological balance.

What’s the difference between conservation and rewilding?

In my opinion, conservation is similar to the protection, preventing the population of endangered species being decrease. The most common practice that we could see in nowadays is to find those species in the wild, then keep them in the zoo. The dangerous situation for those animals radically reduces, due to the guard of the zookeeper. The zoo spends money and effort on providing enough food and simulates the environment for the animals, so only a small number of animals could get this treatment. Even so, the natural instincts and habit of animal habit could change, or even fade away, because they have the possibility of losing themselves in the “be well-fed and well-clothed” lifestyle.

Rewilding is to leading the species which was driven out of their original habitats due to climate change, the negative behaviour of humans, and other facts, back to where those animals used to live. Before those species return, the habits need to be restored. Animals are beneficial to the natural system, maintain the ecological balance. Here is a good example:

One of the most famous rewilding projects is the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone National Park in 1990. The wolves changed the course of some rivers, stabilized deer and elk populations, helped make healthier riverbanks that suffered from less erosion and so much more.

In short, the greatest difference between conservation and rewinding is: conservation is to lead the species into a new habitat and guard by humans. People have to spend money and effort into guarding them. Also, the freedom of those animals is limited. Rewilding is to reintroduce those species back to their original habitat. Animals could act freely without restraint. They are beneficial to the natural system, maintain the ecological balance and making the environment becoming better.

What about Canada?

It’s reassuring to learn that there are still many areas and species in Canada that are not uncovered through Jerika Bradford’s poses. However, the existence of them is undefined. Some of them might exist, some of them vanish. They are mysterious being according to local people.

What can you do to rewild your property?

As a student, we can participate in all kinds of activities associate with improving the environment. For example, for the coming Arbor Day, which is on April 24th, we could help with planting the trees. Also, we could plant some flowers and trees in our backyard, it is another good way to beautify the environment.

What does the Canadian Wildlife Federation think of rewilding?

1⃣Restoring habitats and keeping the species currently have at healthy population levels than reintroducing species that are already gone for centuries.

2⃣It is proven to be much more effective (in terms of cost, effort and success) to prevent wildlife or habitat loss than to restore or rewild it.

Reminder: Following paragraph are just a draft!!!

What do you think about rewilding?

I think rewilding is a great project.

By contrast with the conservation, rewilding is easier to achieve, and what’s more important is, it’s practical. From the current environmental conditions, we can come to the conclusion that protects the animals under human power couldn’t make the goal of making those animals get the guarantee substantially, whether from the physical and mental health. Furthermore, the act of conservation may also hurt the nature of those animals. They may start forgetting their response and what they are supposed to do to make them alive. They ignore hunting, just waiting people provide food to them, and content with the latest position they had.

Let’s back to the subject. Rewilding seems like doesn’t have to do with much money expense and human labor. What we needs to do is to find out where are those species which was driven out of its original habitat belongs to, and then introduce them back to the place they used to live. It can bring many benefits, such as restoring the place that desdory by human force. etc,

How far back in time should rewilding go?

There is a sentence go in the article of the author, Jerika Bradford:

Restoring habitats and keeping the species currently have at healthy population levels than reintroducing species that are already gone for centuries.

The time that rewilding go shouldn’t be too far. But however, scientist should putting efforts on discovering the accent speices such as dinersor.

Do we bring back species from last century or millennial?

Bring back species from last century or millennial sounds ridiculous and not practical. But it’s xxx for people to have a try. People has trying to discover the mysteries of the diners our for centuries. Explore the unknown speices is not only benefits for getting to know past things, but also . It could be practice in our daily life, and have a positive influence. For example , the researches that we do today like. Has help us xxx successfully. (this is still editing!)
